HEED THE CALL
The Omidyar Fellows program is at an important moment in our development. Cohort IV completed the curriculum phase and moved into a robust, active Forum of Fellows. Cohort V recently began their journey with us. We now have enough experience at our midpoint to do a much deeper dive and reflection to make our next five cohorts’ experience as rich, diverse, and impactful as the first five.
Starting in January 2017, we will begin a process of evaluation. One important aspect of our process will be the need to delay the recruitment and selection of Cohort VI until 2018. This gap year allows us a significant investment in our own learning and development. Now that we have a critical mass of Fellows and five years of experience, the timing seems right. This process is fueled by our desire to continue to learn from our experience and to most effectively fulfill our mandate and mission.

Application form — The form requests basic information such as organization, job title, phone number, email address, and mailing address for you and both your recommenders (writers of your letters of support). The form cannot be saved so please compile all the necessary information before submitting at one time.
While we recognize the significance of diacritical markings, we respectfully ask you to omit any such markings in your application form responses as including them may result in submission errors due to the web format of the online application. However, please feel free to include diacritical markings in any of your attachments.
Resume — In two to three pages (submissions beyond this limit will not be forwarded to the Selection Committee), prepare a brief resume including the items below. Be sure to detail your leadership and supervisory experiences.
- Employment History: title, dates in position, scope of responsibilities and achievements
- Professional Affiliations: name of organization or group, dates of involvement, and description of your role or activities
- Community/Civic Involvement: name of organization or group, dates of involvement, and description of your role or activities
- Professional Development: name of institution/program, year(s) attended, credential awarded
- Formal Education: name of institution, years attended, degrees awarded
Biography — In no more than 120 words (submissions beyond this limit will not be forwarded to the Selection Committee), write a brief biography highlighting your professional career and community involvement. Please reference the current Fellows' biographies for examples.
Essay — In no more than 1500 words (submissions beyond this limit will not be forwarded to the Selection Committee), describe the key threads of your career path, including a succinct understanding of what has driven and drives your professional interests, accomplishments, and future trajectory. Please do not recap your work experiences, as that ought to be self evident in your resume. Instead, take time to reflect on your resume and address the questions below. Include evidence of your problem-solving skills, original thinking, collaborative efforts, capacity to effect innovation, and passion to be a better leader.

- What have been the drivers and motivators in your career choices?
- What does it mean to be a leader in 21st-century Hawaii?
- What drives you to be a catalyst for change?
- How will the Omidyar Fellows program help you to achieve your professional aspirations?
- How will the Omidyar Fellows program help you to achieve your aspirations for the larger community and the people of Hawaii?
Letter of support from your chief executive (e.g., CEO, Executive Director, Board Chair) – The letter should address why you are a current and future leader in your organization and how your growth might continue beyond the program. In addition, it should describe a significant accomplishment that you have achieved or contributed to in the context of your professional career. The letter also needs to describe your organization’s commitment to endorse you to participate fully in all program activities and challenge you to apply your learning where it will benefit the organization. Letter of support from a colleague (outside your organization) – Please ask a colleague who knows your work to write a letter addressing your potential as a current and future leader in your community. Your colleague should also address your ability to work collaboratively with others and explore new ideas. In addition, it should describe a significant accomplishment that you have achieved or contributed to in the context of your professional career.
