Event Honors Outstanding Mothers, Raises Money to Fight Lung Disease

Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer in women, and the rate of lung cancer in the past 40 years rose in women by almost 80 percent.

The American Lung Association in Hawai‘i is hosting its annual Outstanding Mother Awards event on May 26 at the ‘Alohilani Resort to honor amazing women leaders and raise funds and awareness about the lung health of women and their families.

Angela Keen, board member of the American Lung Association in Hawaii, and Marivic Dar, chair of the 2024 Outstanding Mother Awards and 2023 honoree, joined HNN’s Sunrise Weekends to talk about this year’s honorees:

  • Bettina Mehnert, President and CEO of Architects Hawaii (AHL)
  • Dr. Diane Paloma, President and CEO of Hawaii Dental Service (HDS)
  • Dr. Angela Pratt, OB/GYN Department Chair at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children
  • Cha Thompson, Co-Founder of Tihati Productions

The honorees are recognized for their balance of personal and professional lives and selected by the LUNG FORCE Women’s Cabinet.
