Hawai‘i Banks Weigh In on Diversity in the Industry

There's no one right way to embrace diversity for Hawai‘i banks.

Central Pacific Bank established its Women's Leadership Program in 2020 and its WE by Rising Tide cohort program for women entrepreneurs this year. American Savings Bank set up its Diversity Council in 2019 — resulting in Juneteenth being recognized as a new holiday at the bank — and has put on annual "Respect in the Workplace" and "LGBTQ+ in the Workplace" panels. For First Hawaiian Bank, there is a Pride Coalition and women have served on its board of directors long before it was a requirement of NASDAQ publicly traded companies. Bank of Hawai‘i did some of the above, co-sponsored a two-part public panel discussion, "A Conversation on Race in Hawaii" in June and July, and put on a virtual event, "Phenomenal Women in Extraordinary Times" in 2020.
