Startup Soil Testing Lab Opens on O‘ahu, Cutting Turnaround Time for Hawai‘i Farmers

Makali‘i Metrics, a Hawai‘i‑based startup specializing in soil analysis, opened its first laboratory on May 14, marking the start of full operations on O‘ahu. Founded in 2022 by CEO Daniel Richardson and Kūha‘o Zane, the company delivers locally tailored soil data for farmers, ranchers, researchers and land stewards.

Located in Mōʻiliʻili, O‘ahu, the lab can receive samples from Hawai‘i companies and deliver data more efficiently than if samples were shipped to soil testing labs on the Mainland, which could take weeks.
