Hawai‘i Ranks No. 17 Nationwide for Energy Efficiency Policies

Hawai‘i ranked No. 17 in the recently released 2022 State Energy Efficiency Scorecard by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, which ranks states based on their implementation of policies that cut utility bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

California topped the list at No.1, followed by Massachusetts, New York, Vermont and Maine. Ranked at the bottom of the list was Wyoming, with Kansas and South Carolina tied at No. 49. Hawai‘i slipped three spots this year, having ranked at No. 14 in 2021.

“The equity component seemed to drive where our numbers were a little bit lower,” Brian Kealoha, chief growth and impact officer at Vermont Energy Investment Corporation, told Pacific Business News.
