Joy Barua is a business and community leader whose career has spanned 30 years and multiple industries, including insurance, health care and education.
Since becoming president in 2021, Barua has grown Finance Insurance with nearly a dozen new employees and a new Kauai office, despite the impact from the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 Maui wildfires.
Prior to Finance Insurance, Barua held leadership positions with the City and County of Honolulu, Kaiser Permanente and several nonprofits. He also served as a lecturer at Hawai‘i Pacific University for 16 years. Barua actively serves on 14 nonprofit and trade group boards and several business advisory boards, including Island Pacific Academy, the Hawai‘i Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, the Mana Up Hawai‘i Foundation, and the Caregivers Foundation of Hawai‘i.
