Hawaiian Electric's new solar and battery storage project, operated by Innergex Renewable Energy Inc., has begun commercial operations to provide renewable energy to the grid on Hawai‘i Island.
The Hale Kuawehi Solar and Battery Storage Project launched on March 25. The site will produce up to 30 megawatts of renewable energy.
The project is the second “solar-plus-battery” storage site on the island. It’s supported by a 120 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system and can produce energy for nearly 13,500 homes, the company said.
