Gavin Thornton is the new deputy director of the City and County of Honolulu’s Office of Economic Revitalization, Mayor Rick Blangiardi's office said Thursday.
City officials said that Thornton brings “extensive experience” in policy and coalition building to the role. Most recently, he spent eight years as the executive director of the Hawai‘i Appleseed Center for Law & Economic Justice, a research and advocacy nonprofit. He also previously worked at the Legal Aid Society of Hawai‘i.
In his new role, he will focus on “expanding economic opportunities for O‘ahu residents,” city officials said.
