The Legal Aid Society of Hawai‘i was established in 1950, and with 10 offices and more than 100 staff members, it is the state’s oldest and largest nonprofit, public interest law firm.

“We work to reduce legal barriers that impact everyday lives, and our services are free,” Nalani Fujimori Kaina, executive director of Legal Aid Society of Hawai‘i, told Pacific Business News.

Backed by federal funding, Legal Aid provides legal forms and brochures, as well as, legal assistance and legal representation, to local clients.

Kaina said the law firm helps low- to moderate-income members of the community resolve legal problems related to housing, family, immigration, incapacity planning, consumer, government benefits and health insurance. The firm also offers Covid-19 specific legal help and resources, relating to unemployment, financial assistance, funeral assistance and more, according to its website.
