Now a fading memory, eerily empty streets and shuttered shops in Waikiki. Pandemic shutdowns in 2020 halted most air travel, cutting Hawai‘i off from the rest of the world. Daniel Chun, Director of Sales, Community & Public Relations - Hawai‘i at Alaska Airlines, says, "It's no secret Airlines were one of the hardest hit during the pandemic. Yet, even as air travel came to a halt throughout the crisis, Airlines needed to continue to operate as a means for essential travel and much-needed goods and cargo movement."

While most tourists stayed home, Alaska Airlines kept planes in the air to keep essential businesses running in Hawai‘i. Chun added, "While states and cities were on lockdown, and people were working from home, many of our employees joined the millions of others who needed to come to work to help maintain our country's critical infrastructure."
