She may be gone but she is certainly not forgotten. The legacy of Kumu Hula Nālani Kanaka’ole lives on in this exhibition at the Bishop Museum. It’s called “Ea mai ‘Eiwa,” or Patterns of Practice.
“Nālani was my muse. She was my biggest inspiration, but it was also because I was so privy to that that private-ness of it all. She didn’t share much with many people, but there I was right there, and I was the sponge,” said well-known Island Fashion Designer Sig Zane.
Zane was the husband of the beloved Kumu Hula, who passed away earlier this year.
Although this exhibit just opened, it has been years in the making.
