New Donation Drop-off Site Aims To Reduce Waste

Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services is partnering with Re-use Hawai‘i and Goodwill Hawai‘i to launch a pilot program aimed at reducing waste.

Starting May 31, a reusable materials drop-off site will be open for donations at the Kapa‘a Transfer Station in Kailua.

The pilot program will run on weekends for six months, providing the public with an accessible way to donate reusable goods instead of throwing them away.

“Waste is one of our biggest struggles around sustainability for our community, and as an island community, we need to do everything that we can to divert materials from the landfill,” said Re-use Hawaii executive director Quinn Vittum.
