Shifted Energy CEO Explains Why Acquisition Beats Venture Capital Route

Forest Frizzell co-founded Shifted Energy in 2016 alongside Olin Lagon with the mission of helping underserved communities benefit from Hawaii’s transition to 100% clean energy by 2045.

The company built an energy management system that uses technology to help improve electric grid reliability. In October, the company was acquired by California-based Resource Innovations.

The acquisition is part of a long list of mergers, acquisitions and business exits in Hawaii that raise questions as to whether the state is seeing a decline in the number of C-suite decision-makers. But Frizzell argues that this particular acquisition has helped the company become stronger with resources that would have been much more difficult to obtain through other methods.
