From Hawai‘i News Now:
Today on Spotlight Now, we’re speaking to leaders of local nonprofit organizations about how they’re navigating federal funding cuts, and how the state might be stepping in to help.
Amy Miller, Hawai‘i Foodbank CEO, says her organization has lost $4 million worth of food from the federal government.
At the same time, the need is enormous.
“I think the real concern is that we’ve already seen significant increases,” Miller said. “Right now, we are serving almost as many families as we were at the height of the pandemic. We’re serving about twice as many families as we did prior to the pandemic.”
Miller added, “So we’re serving 173,000 people on average, per month, and the numbers keep on ticking up, and that is before anything else happens.”
