From Hawai‘i News Now:
Food insecurity in Hawaii is often hidden, but widespread, Hawai‘i Foodbank CEO Amy Miller said on Hawai‘i News Now’s Spotlight Now.
“Food insecurity is kind of maybe a hidden issue, not something that you see every day, but it’s a very critical issue,” Miller said.
According to the latest State of Food Insecurity in Hawai‘i report, “one in three households” or 32% statewide are food insecure, which means they do not have enough food to support a healthy, active lifestyle.
Miller said for some families it means buying cheaper, less nutritious food, but for others, it is far more severe and includes “skipping meals” or “sometimes not eating for whole days.”
