Study: Hawaii Electricity, Gas Prices Remain Worst in the U.S.

Hawai‘i's high prices for electricity and natural gas worked put the Islands toward the bottom in a 2021 analysis of the most- and least-expensive energy states in the country by finance website Wallethub this week.

Wallethub had Hawai‘i ranked 27th-most expensive among the 50 states and Washington, D.C., with an average of $319 spent on monthly energy bills. That came with the caveat that Hawai‘i does not spend anything on home heating oil, a factor working against most other states.
