The 2020 Statewide Homeless Awareness Virtual Conference in November 2020 brought together more than 1,100 people from across the state for sessions and panels about one of the biggest issues facing Hawai‘i.

Forest Frizzell, Cohort I, gives back through serving as a board member of Purple Maiʻa, a technology education nonprofit working to educate and empower the next generation technology makers and problem solvers.

In the classroom, Sulma Gandhi found it difficult to find curricula that taught concepts surrounding violence prevention that also represented the rich diversity in Hawai‘i. She created Conscious Communities as a way to fill that void. 

After serving as director of the State of Hawai‘i Department of Human Services, Rachael Wong, Cohort III, came up with the idea for and launched One Shared Future in 2017. She gathered a team to reimagine support for workers in the nonprofit and public sectors – the people that make community change happen.

Always wanting to “push the envelope,” Pamela yearned for a more creative outlet to help change the world. As a mother of two, she became deeply interested in new psychological research that demonstrated a strong link between social and emotional learning (SEL) skills and lifelong success.
